This is a really nice and great looking 1983 Tokai SS-40 MB Silver Star, which is a copy of a 1976 Strat, but made to the high standards of one of Japan’s top brands in the early 80’s. As a copy of a ’76 it has the big headstock, truss rod adjustment at the headstock three bolt neck with micro-tilt.

This particular guitar is in an unusual color combination, as most of the Silver Star series came with black pickguards and the dark metallic blue it is finished in is one of the rarer colors that came with a ¥2,000 upcharge. Pickups are SS-Hot unique to the Silver Star line and described by Tokai: “As the name implies, this high-response pickup was designed for a powerful, hot sound. Materials used in construction were exhaustively researched to lend the essence of the Strat sound.”

Overall, the condition of the guitar is excellent given it was made in 1983. It does have some dents, scratches and a small chip. It does appear to be all original including correct ‘H’ stamped pickups and electronics.

I went over the guitar completely adjusting the relief (truss rod), action (string height), neck angle, pickup heights, intonation, bridge radius and action at the nut was checked. Pots, switch and jack were cleaned with Deoxit. Fretboard, body and neck were all cleaned. Frets were in great shape so they were polished, except for one that was high and causing a buzz which was leveled, crowned and polished. Guitar now plays great with no buzz or dead spots anywhere on the neck.
