Tokai Silver Star models are known as copies of big headstock, three-bolt neck 70's Strats. However, there was a version made for only one year as a copy of a 1966 Stratocaster, the 1982 SS-60, with large headstock, four bolt neck and many features true to a vintage '66 Strat.

Unlike a typical Silver Star model, in addition to the four-bolt neck the truss rod is adjusted at the bottom of the neck, it has vintage Kluson style tuners and its serial number is not on the headstock but rather on the neck plate, all as would a ’66 Strat. The logo also differs with a gold fill and black outline and ‘Silver Star’ written in small-caps as would be found on a Springy Sound, Tokai's small headstock vintage Strat model. The body itself is routed like a Springy Sound rather than a Silver Star with the recesses for the pickup screws. Pickups are ‘U’ stamp ST Vintage Mk II which again were not used on Silver Star models, but rather on the vintage copy Springy Sounds.

The model appears only in the 1982 catalog. Quickly looking at the 1982 catalog, one can easily miss that there was a vintage Silver Star model. Both prior to and following the 1982 catalog, the SS-60 is a copy of a '76 Strat. This Tokai model is quite rare.

This guitar has a 1981 serial number, is in excellent condition and appears to be all original. The guitar will with a non-original hard case. An original Tokai case can be provided at additional cost.

I've added a blog post that details all the differences between this model and a typical Silver Star.
