The Silver Star line was Tokai's large headstock Strat model to compete heads-up with Fender at the time. Based on a 1976 Strat, these models were introduced in 1979 and offered until 1984.
Unlike the guitars these were based on, quality of the Tokai's was consistently very high.
The SS-80 was the top of the line Silver Star model and had some features unique to it. The SS-80 was the only Silver Star model to come finished in nitro. The model also came with a brass nut and brass key-hole bridge saddles, which Tokai called their ‘long sustain bridge’.
This was also the only model to come equipped with DiMarzio high output FS-1 "Fat Strat" pickups, which described as offering a higher output, with smoother and fatter sound over stock. As with the higher grade Silver Stars, the SS-80 came with Schaller style tuners.
Overall this SS-80 is a really nice one, all original except for its input jack. Condition wise, it has aged nicely and has dings and bumps you expect for a guitar of this age. There are scratches on the back and a mark from a sticker below the tremolo springs, see pics.
This guitar has been completely gone through and received a full setup, plus a level, crown and polish of the frets. It plays and sounds as it should with no dead spots or buzzing anywhere on the neck.
SS-38 and SS-40's regularly come up for sale, whereas the Tokai SS-80's are quite rare and much harder to find, especially with all the model specific parts still in place.
Can’t go wrong with an SS-80 If you want a 40+ year old very high quality copy of the guitars many bands favored in the 70's.
The guitar will come with a non-original hard case.
Offered at USD $1,750
