1978 Greco SE 700 W - All Original
SOLD

In 1977 Greco introduced the SE 700 Early Sixties model Strat.  This was their version of the Large Headstock CBS 60's era Fender with a four bolt neck plate.  This model was offered in three tone sunburst, natural, white and tobacco burst.  Per the 1977 catalog, at its introduction the SE 700 was only offered with a Rosewood fingerboard on its one piece Maple neck.

This SE 700 came in white with a lacquer finish, which has gone to a beautiful soft yellow.  Body is Sen, which is a Japanese ash.  Pickups are PU-119 Maxon Excel which sound fantastic and are highly sought after.  Previously, these pickups were only available on Project Series models.  Fully populated pickguard is the original shielded, dated to February 1978 with pots dated to late December 1977.  Serial number is dated March 1978.  The guitar has its original tremolo arm, ash try cover and extra tremolo springs.  One very unique feature, especially for this era, is the original five way selector switch which is highlighted in the 1977 catalog.

I've gone over  this guitar completely and it sounds and plays fantastic.  Fretboard has been cleaned and oiled, a few frets were a little high, so these were spot leveled and crowned with diamond files and all frets were polished to 8000 grit.  Fresh set of DiMarzio 9-42's were installed, the relief was set (truss rod adjustment) and then the action and intonation.  Pickup height was adjusted, pots, switch and jack cleaned.  This guitar needs nothing, no buzzing or dead spots anywhere on the neck.

This guitar is in outstanding overall condition given it is more than 40 years old.  These guitars are vintage guitars in their own right, made to very high Japanese standards when these were still hand made.  It was only a few years later that the very same people making these guitars, would be making them for Fender Japan.  A fantastic example of a very desirable Fujigen made Greco.

This guitar is located in the U.S. and comes with its original gig bag which is in very nice condition as well.
